Let Go

My baby learned to ride her bike without training wheels.

I was away - the first time I left them overnight for work. I watched the video of her wobbling, knees akimbo, proclaiming "Let go! I'm ready!"

We parent so differently, Joe and I. When he takes the kids to school, he rides in front, blazing a trail and trusting them to follow. When it's my responsibility, I lead from behind, watching over the road and my babies and the world, calling out directions as they come.

And then one day, "Let go! I'm ready!"

We lead before and behind, different, yet united. Push and pull. Lift and drag. And somehow, they launch themselves forward, better for the differences. He does what I can't. I hope I do the same.
